This turn is more of a back roll than a turn. The goal is to rotate quickly into position, stay streamlined and low to avoid turbulence, and eliminate excessive lift (time wastage)on the wall.
The cues are:
- Two handed touch
- pull one hand passed the torso
- throw the head back and knees up
- push the remaining hand from the wall passed the ear (same side as the hand - e.g. left hand passed left ear) to meet the outstretched hand
- push off on the side in a tight streamline
This is not a special turn. I learned it in 1988! All swimmers should know how to do this, and it should be used EVERY TIME they push off or do an "open turn".
