The Week That Was

It's my first post since we are back from the holiday.
I'm truly happy to see everybody, it's a great feeling to start another year with UWC Dover Phoenix.
This past few weeks we've been training extremely hard, the kids were getting a lot of mileage, tough dry land sessions and back-braking sets.
Last Friday we had our first Club Night of the year, next day we had organized a small time trial for some girls, those who were trying to make the SEASAC team. It was pretty intense and close, so that's why we had to get another one on the following week.
I would like to congratulate you, I'm proud that you've been trying so hard, but make sure that you are not gonna give up and will continue preparing for the other upcoming swim meets. Please welcome our last SEASAC member, Alison. Well done.
Juniors have been trying to get back into shape, they had couple of hard sets, with many skill work and fast swims. Please try do not miss any sessions the next few weeks(month), because we are hosting the junior ACSIS and also preaparing for the National Age.
Senior squad has been a little bit unobservant, it took us 2 weeks to understand the difference and the meaning of the word of: slow, moderate and fast (or maximum speed). But honestly, by the end of this week I could see a small progress, so at least we still have some hope :)
Lets continue the hard work, aim for the best and don't forget to eat clean and take more supplement(vitamins, minerals), to prevent all the cramps and bad injuries.
Our next few meets are: Junior, middle school ACSIS and the fighting fish meet.

Looking forward to see some fast times and many records.

Coach Alex.

I feel like we have made even further improvements in our training since returning from the holiday. We have had four great threshold sets over the past two weeks with the quality of the swimming and consistency growing each set. Learning how to swim these sets well, and learning how much your body can take (removing previous assumed limits) is a great step. It is exciting to see swimmers realise this.

We also concluded our trials for the SEASAC team with two hard fought races on Saturday. Congrats to Alison McGuire for taking the remaining slot in the 13 & 14 Girls age group.

We've got a couple more weeks before we start making our training more specific (That means IMs for IMers), and in those, we hope to wear you out a bit, before letting you recover just a little for our final block and the big meets. In this time, push-offs, transitions, breakouts and turns need to practiced as in race conditions in order to cement good habits before race time. Race pace also needs to be learned so we know what that pace feels like.

I have two swimmers of the week (didn't post one last week): Kailey Ross has stepped up her game since returning from holiday, as has Alex Mandel - very gutsy work!
Well done to both of you! Keep it up.
I'll leave you with this:
Champions behave like champions before they’re champions; they have a winning standard of performance before they're winners. – Bill Walsh

Have a great week!
