The Week That Was...correction for Friday

Obviously this past week's highlight was having Kris and Sarah for a visit.  We did also have half a meet on Saturday, and there were some very good swims! (Half because lightning stopped the meet)
Most pleasing for me was the great attitude that our younger swimmers had during the meet.
There were some big PB swims which we always like! I hope that those coming away with improvement are energised to do even better.
Results from the meet can be found HERE.

Disqualifications - there were a few.
It is important for swimmers to understand what being disqualified means, and why that happens.
If you are DQ'd (has nothing to do with ice cream), you simply made a mistake that broke a swimming rule. You need to learn from it, and try to perform that skill correctly next time. It is particularly important when you get back to practice - all skills should be done as if in a race EVERY time they are practiced. The very best swimmers in the world have all been DQ'd and it is not the end of the world. Hopefully having your time taken from you means something, and you won't repeat the mistake. When your coach explains the DQ, you are not in trouble. If we don't talk about it, we are not doing our job.

Communication
It appears that many new members of the program are not aware of the blog, or our google site. We need to make sure this doesn't continue...my apologies if you are/ were one of these people
I think that quite often the information from coaches does not get passed on, so we see large numbers of kids that don't know about our club nights etc.
An email will go out today, to everyone registered in our program, assuming that you know nothing. Hopefully we catch everyone.

Team Records
I'm nearly done checking the Team Records - found on a tab in TeamUnify. Much of this is checking to see if past times were swum while representing UWC. I'll make sure these are up to date before I leave! Hopefully before that time, we can also get a Records Board up somewhere in the pool surrounds.

Practices Next Week
No practice Monday 23.

Remember: swimmers all over the world are gearing up for their biggest training and racing push for the year. We are taking an 8-week break! Though you might seem to think that this would make for a long swimming year - you would be right...this is normal. Taking time off now does not help you. Getting unfit before the break is not going to help either. Eat clean, stay healthy (regardless of how much exercise you do), and make sure you don't get out of shape...because getting back in shape is not so much fun! There are workouts posted on this blog (search "workout") from last summer...if you do one of those every two or three days, it is going to help. Unfortunately nothing helps a swimmer more than swimming!

Have a great week.
