Hi all
I have now put together the team selection info for the Senior SEASAC meet in March 2018.
The rationale to split SEASAC into 2 meets is to to motivate 15 and over ages students, as these athletes are still very much in a developmental stage and often have huge improvements still to make in their swimming. It has also been found that when swimmers 'age up' to the 15+ age group, there can be a significant impact on the make up of teams, and 15 year olds may find it very difficult to make the team for their school when competing in the same age group as 17/18 year olds. Rather than splitting the age groups further (where many schools would not be able to field full teams), the decision was made to increase the number of 15 years+ students, to allow schools with bigger senior programs to be well represented, whilst minimising the effect on schools with smaller teams. As some schools are unable to field 10 students of each gender in the 15+ age group, there is the possibility for 13years+ students to compete for their school in Senior SEASAC. It is the assumption that this can be done in cases where schools cannot field a point scoring team otherwise. Ultimately this is at the discretion of the participating school. Students who ‘age up’ from 14 to 15 between Senior SEASAC and Junior SEASAC will be eligible for Junior SEASAC 13-14 years age group (TBC).
We have made the decision to stick to the highest potential point scoring 15 years+ students wherever possible (including 14 year olds who 'age up' prior to Junior SEASAC), however we have also stipulated a minimum training requirement for students who wish to be considered for the UWC Phoenix team. Each year SEASAC continues to grow in competitiveness, as does the International School competitive swimming circuit in Singapore. At UWC Dover we aim to cater to all levels of swimming and competitive desire, however SEASAC is reserved for students who not only perform at the highest level, but demonstrate the desire to do so, by training regularly, with a positive impact on their fellow members of the UWC Phoenix Swim Team.
