The Week That Was...

Junior Squads

Key Pillars of Junior SwimmingRace what you practice. The skills you perfect everyday will only be useful if you use them during your races.

Must Do Technical PointersStreamline, strong kick and body balance allow you to move through the water with greater ease. This must be a focus at all times.

Posture out of the water affects posture in the water. Stand tall and walk confidently in order to positively impact your performance.

Programme FocusWe saw a great deal of benefit from our legs focused progressions during this weekends racing. We will build on this through next week to improve the basic positioning and skills needed to flow smoothly through the water.

Coach Gordon's Swimmer of the Week:

Junior swimmers, the number one thing for you to remember is to try and gain a passion for swimming, to love the feel of the water, to love the rhythm of the stroke, to love the discipline of swimming better, and then you just might find you get pretty good at it and that would be very exciting for you. Make Coach Pete very happy too.
Coach Pete

This week we have worked on the streamline reinforcing the three Dolphins kicks, and pass the flags every time before start swimming freestyle. The sets this week were short distance with short rest but holding a good start, turns and finished maintaining a good technique. We worked on butterfly and backstroke technique maintaining a good body position. The swimmer off the week is Natalie Donosky. Well done to the captains to keep a good spirit in the Phoenix Swim Team.
Coach Monica

Finally, we could manage to finish our meet, without having any issues especially with the unpredictable weather

I can proudly say, that our team spirit, unwavering focus and great attitude was incredible. Unfortunately, as I was also a marshall, I couldn't watch all the races; but I am so glad that all of you did a great job.
We had a very tough week, with lots of dry land and swimming sessions. Many of you were probably tired, sore and that resulted with you being a little bit slow, but that's absolutely normal to feel this way, so keep working hard.
Let's be honest, you guys improved so much the past few months; even this weekend you've got a few PBs, which is amazing, we still have some time before the major meets, which means, we are on the right track.
Congratulations to our coaching staff for an efficient and fast running meet.
Always make yourself and the team proud,
Go Phoenix.
Coach Alex.

It has been good to have the Chiang Mai group back, training properly this week.
We pretty much mirrored last week with out week plan, possibly finishing with a tougher session Friday morning. We've spent quite a bit of time in the higher heart rate zones - 180BPM+ this can be stressful and takes a while to get over - particularly the shorter rest sets. I've been very impressed with the growth of the team members and maturity that I'm seeing in attitude toward training, recovery, and the process of getting better. Two swimmers have have been particularly impressive over the past three weeks and shone on Friday morning during the threshold set. Evie and Andrea. Great job ladies!
