As you know UWC East and UWC Dover have joined forces and will be collaborating more often in future years (in certain competitions). This is a very exciting initiative that Taylor (East Head Coach) and I have been working towards for some time, so we are very pleased that we are starting to change attitudes across both campuses. We feel that by sharing our resources and expertise we can take swimming at the college to a new level.
This being said we certainly do not want to take away from the competitive spirit between the two schools. This is also extremely important and lets be honest, East love to beat Dover and Dover love to beat East. So of course we will still be competing against each other is school competitions. These include ACSIS, SEASAC and local invitationals such as TTS Meet, Dragons Den, and Dover SC meet etc.
Next year we will compete as a UNIFIED team in the following meets:
1. SNAGS 2016 (still swimming under separate teams but we will sit together and wear the combined t-shirts. These will be available to purchase in both school shops very soon for $15 and must be purchased if you are competing at this year's SNAGS. I recommend buying more than one).
2. Singapore National Long Course in June
3. Feeding Frenzy Swim Meet/Bangkok in December
4. Singapore National Short Course in December
We ask all swimmers to continue competing in their Green Dragons Swim Cap or the Orange Phoenix Swim cap. We feel it is still important to retain the identity of our own school even when combined. For the rugby fans amongst us, it is similar to the Barbarians team who wear the same strip, but retain their own club socks during games.
Taylor and I trust that you will all be behind this new initiative as it is truly in the spirit of United World College.
