Bangkok Patana Feeding Frenzy 2018

In December, a group of Phoenix swimmers attended the annual Bangkok Patana Feeding Frenzy competition.

This competition offers a fantastic long course (50m) racing opportunity right before the December school break. This was especially beneficial this year, as the Singapore Swimming Association cancelled the Singapore National Short Course Championships (usually held in December). For the younger students this can also be an opportunity to learn the skills necessary to compete well at a competition abroad (and away from parents).

British Para Swimming Camp

During the final week of the school holidays, and the first week back at school, UWCSEA Dover hosted several members of the British Para Swimming Team.

Some of the older swimmers had the opportunity to train alongside these elite athletes, went through some warm up exercises with the team staff, and all swim team members had the option to hear the stories of these extremely successful swimmers.

The visiting athletes had a combined Paralympic medal haul of 10 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronze (spanning 3 Paralympic Games - Beijing, London and Rio).

The British swimmers were very impressed with the college, and had a great time training here.

SSA Swim Series - January Edition

The Singapore Swimming Association has re-branded their Time Trial events as the Singapore Swim Series, which are aimed mainly at swimmers trying to qualify for the Singapore National Age Group (SNAG) Championships in March. Although there are no QTs for these competitions, there are strict minimum time standards which must be met (these were introduced to limit the number of entries due to the immense popularity of the competitions).

At the January edition, UWCSEA had 80 swimmers entered. This is quite a challenging competition due to it's proximity to the school break, but takes place in an amazing facility and offers swimmers the chance to compete in events (and the pool) that they could participate in at the SNAG meet.
